Here we go, my proper all day long round up of Smut by the Sea.It was a packed day, but let’s start with Reading Session One.
It was led by the nervous yet elegant Tabitha Rayne who read from her Novel A Clockwork Butterfly. Then Rachel Kincaid, who was wearing the coolest earring ever, read a short story called Second Chancewhich was tender, sweet and about premature ejaculation -no, really.
As Ruby Kiddell had to pull out at the last minute (aw) the first panel finished with Lucy Felthouse reading from A French Affair, a sexy, build up piece that she read with great aplomb.
I didn’t get to use my paddle once.
There was plenty of time to check out the delights of the small hall, the erotic tombola, book stall and Crowned Jewels Pretties.
The Second reading panel was started off by Ashley Lister with three incredibly rude poems which were all hilarious too. I’ll never look at Jeremy Kyle, Parliament or Shakespeare the same way again.
Lexie Bay picked a snippet from her lush story Flesh for Fantasy, in Coming Together with Curves. I almost got to paddle her but she jumped out of the way before I could, dammnit.
KD Grace Read as Grace Marshall (those gals look uncannily similar) and I ended up reading her bio in a semi American kind of way. She read a sexy and steamy elevator Scene from An Executive Decision.
Then the anxious but very good Jennifer Denys read and had us rolling in the aisles with her tongue in cheek appraisal of the erotic romance genre. It was a snippet from Friendly Seduction
We were going to do a Smut session at lunch time but decided it was wiser to let people have an hour to go off and get themselves some lunch, the stalls were all open though, so you could grab a ticket on the tombola and win something cool.
You could pick up a sexy book to enjoy and maybe get signed!
Sold by the lovely Ian, Lucy’s other half and smut peddler extraordinaire.
And you could look at the gorgeous pretties brought by Crowned Jewels. Gorgeous sex toys that will please any lover!
After lunch we had a tea party with The Fetish Red Queen, the Hatter, Duchess and Doormouse. Slave Nano gave us a real treat of a show for his book launch for Adventures in Fetishland
And then we enjoyed a publishing panel with great questions and lots of fabulous advice (which I’m hoping to recall and post up on smutbythesea.co.uk soon!) and the panel members got as much out of the session as everyone else! It was Lucy Felthouse, KD Grace, Ashley Lister and myself. I think it went really well too.
And then we came to the last panel of the day.
Gemma Parkes who was very nervous and had been changing her mind on what to read all day went first and she did really, really well, yay!
Next was Liv Honeywell and Domitri Xavier (who took my mispronunciation of his name very well indeed) with their powerful reading from a book I believe is coming soon and these two were reading virgins too, which is very hard to believe, they were very good indeed!
And lastly (for the daytime anyway) Janine Ashbless blew us away with an Excerpt from Named and Shamed.
It had been a fun day and as 4pm hit we had 2 hours to pack up and prepare for the evening book launch party. It was good to have a little time to relax before the evening which had to be changed last minute because the amazing Moorita had car problems that kept her from the event.
We went straight to plan B and had lots of people reading smutty excerpts. Excuse me if I don’t go through them all one by one but readers in the evening included Lucy Felthouse, Tabitha Rayne, KD Grace, Slave Nano, Lexie Bay and Myself, Gemma Parkes (She really got the reading bug!) and Tilly Hunter who broke her reading out loud virginity with us all.
It was a fab evening with swag bags, wine and much laughter. It crowned a most enjoyable day and as we sat waiting for the Caretaker (the folks at Scarborough Library were wonderfully helpful!) we started to plan the next one…
We have to say a huge thank you to House of Erotica, Give Lube, All Romance Ebooks, Xcite Books and Jo Divine for their support and a massive thank you to all who came and helped out on the day. Without my smut helpers the day wouldn’t have gone so well.

And my very last word here is a great big thank you to my husband, who plotted and planned with me and lugged a load of lube to Scarborough on the train. He coded and designed, listened to my woes and always, always kept me positive. Without you, Kev, this whole mad thing wouldn’t have happened.

We had great fun and it certainly was hard work but it was worth it in the end. I’m hoping for more paddle opportunities next year. ;)
