Friends Friday – Pender Mackie!

pyfHi everyone. I’m Pender Mackie, a male/male romance writer. This is my first time as a guest on Victoria’s blog and I’m excited to be here.

Since I’m a new author I’ve included a little bit of info about me. I live in Canada now but I spent the first eleven years of my life in the UK so I share a tolerance for rain and a love of chocolate-covered Hob Nobs with my Brit friends. Happily we get Hob Nobs here in Canada so I can get my fix. I’m not so thrilled about rain, but now that Spring is here the rain has finally eased up.

I’ve included a couple of pictures from around my neighbourhood but they’re not from my garden. That’s still a soggy mess.

“In the spring a young man’s fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love.” Maybe it was different for Alfred Lord Tennyson, but I think about men, and love, all year round.

I never set out to be a romance writer but I loved reading romance as a teen. More recently I started reading manga (Japanese comics) and that lead to reading fan fiction, then original stories and finally ebooks — in my opinion, the greatest invention since the chocolate-covered Hob Nob. (I still like my paperbacks though.)

Somewhere along the way I started writing. A few friends suggested I think about trying to get published so I wrote a story for Silver Publishing as they were asking for submissions. It was accepted and so my first ever published book Scent of Attraction, was released on April 9, 2011.

Scent is a male/male romance about Shawn, a shy guy, who meets a man he’s very attracted to. Shawn struggles to overcome his shyness but there’s a few other obstacles along the way.

Here’s the blurb:

When Shawn takes a job at a cologne counter in a busy department store he hopes it’s the beginning of a successful career in the health and beauty industry. But almost two years later Shawn is frustrated with his job and his love life. He’s still working the cologne counter, still single and still spending every night alone.

His job allows him to meet plenty of good-looking men but most of them are straight, and even when they aren’t, Shawn is shy. He gets nervous and tongue-tied when he’s around a hot guy and the thought of going on a date with a complete stranger makes his stomach churn nervously.

When he meets friendly and outgoing Graham the attraction on both sides is intense and immediate.Shawn might be willing to step out of his comfort zone this time, but there’s just one problem. Graham’s already with someone else.

It looks like their relationship might be over before they even share a kiss …
