Friends Friday- Maggie Nash!

It’s about time!

Literally. Yes, this post is literally about time. Or more to the point – how do we find more of it?

You probably think I’m going to wax lyrical on how I’ve found the magic formula for managing time, and geez I wish I could. Nup. Unfortunately I’m still searching for a better way to get all of the things done that I want to do. So in the interests of helping me get myself sorted I’ve done a little research and found something just a bit different from the usual prioritise models I’ve found in the past. You know the ones – “to do” lists with must do now, can do later, someone else can do…

This one is from a New York journalist called Laura Vanderkam and her book titled 168 Hours: You Have More Time Than You Think . It really struck a chord for me…

Basically she reminds us that there are 168 hours in a week. Minutes and hours are choices. How we choose to fill them is a choice.

Realizing this changes how you view time. You should start by filling your 168 hours with the things that matter to you and those you care about — those high-impact activities that nurture your career, nurture your family, and nurture yourself — and spend as few of your 168 hours as possible on anything else.
Laura Vanderkam

Okay, so it’s not rocket science. Choose how you want to fill your time, don’t let the time govern you. Think about what are the activities that matter the most. And choose wisely.

So how will this help me in my own life? Boy do I need help!

With my family I have an endless list of tasks that have to be done, but how many of them are just habit and not really a choice? I know there’s lots of time I can get back if I choose not to be such a creature of routine…looking good so far.

Work life. Ahem. Work? If I could I would choose retirement, but not gonna happen for a while yet, but if I choose to only work my PAID hours, then I’ll get heaps of time back. Great idea…I’ll tell my boss it’s a legal right to have work/life balance

With my writing life I need to make the most new and exciting choices. I love writing, but somehow all the other life issues steal my precious writing time. I need to CHOOSE to fill my hours writing…and from now on, that’s what I’m going to do!

So what do you do to help manage your time?

Don’t forget to check out my 18 July release Illuminations from

It’s my first historical release so I’m very excited!

When Darius finds Gemma, a young scullery maid, peeking through a shaded window at a menage with one of their guests instead of seeing to her duties in the kitchen, they have just the right punishment for her.

Before the hot summer evening is over Gemma finds herself at the mercy of not one, but two very handsome young men who not only wanted to teach her a lesson, but she soon finds out – she is the lesson, and this time she is the one with an audience.

Thanks so much to Victoria for having me here today! Don’t forget to leave your tips on time management…I can use all the help I can get!
