Friends Friday – Lucy Felthouse and Challenging Writing.

Back when I first starting writing erotica, I very much stuck to what I knew, i.e. male/female sex in pretty ordinary situations. Or at least, ones that could be created with a bit of research and some imagination. The longer I’ve been writing, though, the more I’ve started to experiment. It’s inevitable, really, otherwise you’d just be writing the same story over and over again.

Now, I really get a kick from challenging myself, from pushing the envelope. It’s why I’ve now got ménage, m/m, f/f, contemporary, paranormal, BDSM, femdom, maledom, spanking, swinging, Rubenesque, romance, military, shifter, ghost, holiday fling, dogging, vampire and werewolf stories to my name. I’ve grown more confident in my writing, my imagination and my ability, and so I’ve let them go wild and create all kinds of tales. There are a few pairings and situations I’d still like to try in the future, something to challenge myself further.

But I’m pretty pleased with what I’ve done so far. I’ve written around 170k this year so far, so I’ve learned not to be so hard on myself. Some of those words are released in the next few days (well, technically I wrote A Taste of Paris last year, but hey) and I would say they were definitely challenging, albeit in different ways.

Testing Tom is to be released on the 30th July by Secret Cravings Publishing. It’s a femdom erotic romance novella, and one I had a great deal of fun writing. I originally wrote it for an anthology, but there weren’t enough stories so they’ve published it as a standalone. It was a tale that I just had the tiniest seed of an idea for, just the idea of a Domme having her heart broken by a man who now wants her back, so she decides to get him to prove his feelings.

That seed turned into a rather hardcore plant, I have to say! I’ve written femdom before, and I like writing it, I like the freedom and variety. But this story shocked me as I was writing it. I was literally gasping as my fingers hit the keys and the words appeared on the screen. It’s probably not too hardcore compared to some writing, but for me it certainly is. I really challenged myself with it, and for that reason, I adore the story and am pleased with how it’s turned out. I love the cover, too!

A Taste of Paris is to be released on the 2nd August by Ellora’s Cave. It’s the second story in my A Taste of… series. The characters started their journey in London, and are now in Paris. They’re two young men on the trip of a lifetime. They’re young, free and single, and they’re having fun and lots of sex. The challenge with this series has been twofold: writing a series, and writing from the male perspective.

I’ve basically learned to make lots of notes to ensure consistency throughout the series (I just finished the third book, A Taste of Rome, which is with my editor) and that has really helped. The writing from a male perspective is something I really enjoy, too. The two main characters, Ryan and Kristian are young men, have hormones racing, they joke around with one another and have no intention of settling down just yet. But at the same time they’re not arseholes. It’s been fun to write lots of no-strings sex, perv over hot girls, pen inventive and sometimes unbelievable (in a good way) sex scenes. The books aren’t just about sex, though. They’re about Ryan and Kristian and their adventures, and my intention is to write more tales that take them right up to their arrival back in England and their preparation to start University. Who knows, I might even continue with their University years!

I’ve just had to really remember to focus on the physical, focus on fun, and not emotions. There have been words and sentences I’ve deleted because they sound too girly. They weren’t something a young man would say. So it’s really all about getting into their mindsets and seeing the world through their eyes. I feel like I’ve been on an adventure with them.

I hope you enjoy reading these stories as much as I enjoyed challenging myself to write them ;)

Testing Tom

When Katrina’s ex, Tom, turns up on her doorstep, he’s literally the last person she was expecting to see. After dumping her and running off with a vanilla chick, Tom broke the Domme’s heart and left her seriously hurting. So when he returns, begging for another chance, Katrina is understandably very confused and protective of her bruised feelings. She finds it very difficult to believe that he’s turned his back on a vanilla lifestyle for good and wants to be with her, a professional dominatrix. Rather than letting her head or her heart figure out what to do, whether to forgive him, she decides to put Tom through a series of challenges that will prove his devotion to her—or not. Testing Tom is not something she’d ever expected she’d have to do, but to her, it’s the only way she can be sure whether he’s back for good.

A Taste of Paris

Book two of the A Taste Of… series

Ryan Stonebridge and his friend Kristian Hurst are traveling on their year off before going to University. Unfortunately, Kristian has been called back home due to a family emergency. Ryan continues on to Paris alone, hoping his friend will join him again soon.

In the meantime, Ryan’s lucky streak with women continues, and by the time Kristian makes it to Paris, Ryan’s bumper box of condoms is depleting rapidly. However, there are more than enough women to go around, and Kristian intends to have some sexy fun of his own, and when the boys get a chance to play with two sexy ladies at once, they certainly aren’t going to turn it down.
