Even if you didn’t attend an Accredited Online College to become a writer, writing doesn’t have to be a chore. Nope, here’s a few Blisse hints and tips on how to get down to it and write.
Write
I know, I know. I’m honestly not being funny here. You have to write. Get into the habit of doing it daily even if it’s only 20 minutes. I know it’s not possible to schedule the same bit of the day every day but try to fit it in there somewhere. Ahem, no pun intended.
Carry a notebook or journal everywhere
Or just a phone now that so many of them have a facility to write memos. I use my blackberry to jot story ideas down on often. But definitely have things to hand so that when inspiration strikes you can capture it. Keep paper and pen by your bed and yes, write it all down. All those little ideas that creep up on you and capture your imagination. You might never use some of them but you will find some story plots in there somewhere.
Read often
Basically I’m telling you to go out there and consume other writers ideas then adapt them and use them to further your own writing. Well no, I’m not telling you that. I’m telling you that you need to read good writing to recognise it in yourself. Same goes for bad writing. Consume words and it will help you when you need to spit them out and get’em on paper yourself!
Plan
I am not a big one for this but even I have a little bit of a plan for my stories. Soemtimes it can help you get over writers block too. Spend time thinking in depth about your characters and where you want them to go and it might just get you itching to write it out!
Write!
No, Im not just repeating myself. Don’t over think it, get the words typed out. Editing comes later. Just get the impression down now and you can tweak it later.
Disconnect
I should listen to my own advice more often but it is good to get rid of distractions when writing. I have to have my email open but I will only allow myself a sneaky peek at my social media after I’ve done a certain number of words.
Take the bad with the good
Sometimes you’re going to write and it’s going to be crap. You’ve just got to keep going and the good stuff will come -promise!
Challenges
Duel meaning here. Take on challenges from fellow authors sometimes writing a short piece for a challenge can help you work on longer works. For example go out into the world and find an object to writw about like a rock. Breathe life into it by creating a story about it. These types of prompts or silly scenarios get the gears in your brain moving. Don’t be afraid to think outside of the box.
Also don’t keep to what you know, branch out and keep trying new things. It’s the only way to make sure you don’t end up in a rut!
Dig Deeper into you
The author is at the centre of everything he or she writes. So to develop your writing delve deeper into you. Also readers love to interact with those folks who write the stories they love. So get a blog there’s no excuse not to these days. WordPress, Blogger and Tumblr are great resources to consider for starting to reach out to the readers out there. I also Suggest Pinterest but mostly ‘cos it’s just great fun too!
Friend Writers
It’s a great support net. And no one will get you as much as someone who goes through the same trials and tribulations. They’re great for helping you come up with story ideas too and the knowledge that is locked up in these people’s minds is amazing. It’s great to cross-polinate research with your mates.
Feedback
Feedback can be good it can be bad and it can be awful. You need to use it constructively to make your works better. Also know when to ignore feedback. A person’s negative opinion does not mean your writing is terrible. It just means they weren’t the right reader for your story.
Be passionate
*waggles brows* I mean that goes without saying for an erotica writer! But no, It goes for any kind of writing. Passion makes words leap off the page and lodge in peoples minds and hearts.
Write
Practise makes perfect.Just Keep writing. In the end it’s the best piece of advice you’ll ever get.
