I am sure you all remember Sophie Morgan’s guest post from the other week ranting, very gracfully I might add, about a certain book. *aherm* I knew from reading ‘Six Reasons Fifty Shades of Grey isn’t true to life‘ that I was going to love her book, The Diary of a Submissive. I was very excited when it dropped through my door. It’s a good, chunky book (love’em big I do!) and the cover is classically kinky. The burb promises much, too. Check it out:

I also got the press release which included this snippet from Sophie herself:
And I realise she’s on the same wavelength as me. We’ve chatted a bit via twitter, you should send her a tweet @mssophiemorgan, she’s lovely. By this point she’s going to be sweating bullets to I better get on with my review to put her out of her misery, though she does like pain so maybe…no, I’m not that cruel.
If you’re expecting helicopters, red rooms of pain and lip biting, you’re going to be disappointed. If you’re expecting something fantastical and sweetly romantic then you need to look elsewhere. This is a diary, it’s full of real emotion, real happenings and a lot of pain.
Now, I like a bit of BDSM but I paddle in the shallow end of the pain pool. A light spanking, a bit of bondage and some shockingly rude dirty talk is about my level. It’s what I write, it’s what I like. Sophie describes in vivid detail some very thorough beatings, some seriously degrading humiliation and pain, lots and lots of pain that ends in brusies, welts and marks.
I think you need to know this before you embark on your read. But you know what? It is so well written, you’re given so much insider knowledge about how Sophie feels that it doesn’t seem excessive or shocking. Certainly some of the rougher stuff didn’t turn me on, I don’t think it’s meant to per se, it’s more an explanation of why it turns her on. How it turns her on. It’s not a how to manual or a work of fiction to tease and tantalise. It’s real. That’s the heart of it’s appeal.
It’s the depth of emotion that really makes this stand out from other books featuring BDSM. Yes, the kink is prominent but instead of a story thrown in around the sex scenes as often happens in erotica, this is a story that has kinky sex scenes woven intrinsically into it.
A great book that will make you think as well as entertain you. I am sure you won’t be able to put this one down!
Wow! I’m very intrigued, Victoria, I read Sophie’s previous post of six reaons why 50SOG isn’t real life, and I’f read 50SOG, so very intrigued. Sounds to me like a must read. Thanks for the insightful review.
