First UK Street Store Helps Manchester’s Homeless!

UK FIRST AND GLOBAL LINK UP FOR TINY MANCHESTER BASED SOCIAL ENTERPRISE

Manchester, England will be the first location in the UK to run a one day ‘pop-up’ Street Store to provide clothing for the homeless. The store will be run by volunteers from a tiny social enterprise called Coffee4Craig.

The founders of Coffee4Craig saw the Street Store video on YouTube and knew exactly the sort of lack of self-esteem that was being talked about in it. Their biggest challenge was that they were just too small to be able to organise an event in their area. Then someone approached them out of the blue and asked them if he could team up with them specifically to run a Street Store on their behalf… they couldn’t believe it… They were going to have a Street Store in Manchester!

The person who approached them has always had a morbid fear of ending up on the streets. He’s got no rational reason for it, in fact he is a successful businessman. The only thing he can think of is that it verges on being a phobia for him. When he saw the Street Store video he made a decision there and then that this was his opportunity to pay it forwards and work with a local organisation to make a difference for the homeless in his community.

The original Street Store YouTube video can be seen here www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDw0JtwQU8A

Coffee4Craig was started when the brother of one of the founders was discovered dead after sleeping rough on the streets. Despite Great Britain being one of the wealthiest countries in the world it still has a huge challenge when it comes to re-homing people who find themselves on the streets. Often these people have other psychological or addiction related issues, so it isn’t just about getting them a bed, it’s also about getting them the right support to help to keep that bed!

The Street Store concept was created by Maximilian Pazak and Kayli vee Levitan with the support of the agency they work at, M&C Saatchi Abel in Cape Town, South Africa. It was founded in January 2014, in partnership with their client, The Haven Night Shelter. However, as homelessness is not a South African problem, they decided to make the idea ‘open-source’.
