As I told you pre-Christmas our Ginea Pig, Rainbow had babies. She had three of them who I called weird names on birth. Big Eater, Legless and Little’un.
Well, last week I had the unenviable task of trying to work out what gender the little darlings actually were so that we’d not end up with any more babies! It took a long time and I looked at waaaaaay too many photos of guinea pig genitalia but in the end my husband and I sorted them out. We had two girls and one boy.
Little’un got introduced to his Dad, being the little boy and Legless and Big Eater Stayed with their mum. We decided they all needed new names as the ones I’d given them didn’t fit any more.
Little One Macho’d up and became Midnight where the girls became Mystery (Big Eater) and Lucy. It was then time to make a sad but necessary decision. We had to decide which guinea pigs to keep. Well, we don’t have room for more than two guinea pigs, so it became obvious we’d have to say goodbye to Rainbow and the girls.
This morning with my daughter we took them over to the lovely lady at the Tameside Rabbit and Guinea Pig Rescue Centre. She had a huge shed filled with hutches and each one had one or more rabbit or guinea pig in it. New Rabbits have been arriving daily of late.
It was sad but we know that the girls will get a lovely new home and we must thank Elaine for taking them on. She does a brilliant job taking in all these pets that people can’t look after any more and some of those Rabbits and Guinea Pigs have to stay with her for life.

We now have two rambunctious boys to look after and are very happy to have them but we will always miss the girls who added so much love and joy to our lives over this past Christmas.
