Smut by the Sea – Behind the Scenes!

sbts-button

So, I’m back from Scarborough and Smut by the Sea. While I wait for everyone to share their photos, I’m going to do a post about how I felt about the whole experience. In future posts you’ll get a break down of everything that happened during the day.

Okay, to start, I made lists. I’ve got a book that must have about a dozen pages covered in lists of things to take, stuff to do in the run up to the event and all through it. It helped me feel somewhat in control because every now and then a wave of complete and utter panic would wash over me.

Wednesday was the big packing day and, if you’ve not seen the photo of one of our two HUGE cases stuffed with smut, here it is:

It took a long time to pack but once all the smutty stuff was packed away I felt much better about things. I can tell you I slept well every night last week except Thursday. I was knackered but all the plans for the next day whirled in my mind. I was excited and nervous and just wanted to get to Scarborough to get on with it.

Mr Blisse and me got to Scarborough without problem and checked in at the Black Lion where we commenced a scintilating afternoon of folding tombola tickets AND stuffing swag bags, I know, sexy, right? Sadly, lots of other folks struggled with traffic so dinner for ten became dinner for four BUT we had delightful company, Tabitha Rayne and her friend Scarlet and the most oggle-worthy Italian waiter serving us. *Loses self in a smutty fantasy*

Aherm, anyway, after great food and fantasy fodder at Florio’s we went off to meet up with the weary travellers who’d just arrived. A drink at the Black Lion pub, much laughter and catching up put alot of my worries to rest. We had the smuttiest Authors and their awesome partners in town and we were going to have a Blast!

I didn’t sleep well that night. The bed was comfy but I just couldn’t settle. I got about four hours lseep in total and although knackered, I was relieved when I could get up and get going.

Scarborough Library was a fantastic venue, their staff were so very helpful and the concert hall is very impressive in it’s lilacy grandness. Set up went well with help from many hands. In fact, we owe a great debt of gratitude to Tilly Hunter, KD Grace and Raymond, Lucy Felthouse and Ian, Lexie Bay and Doug, Gemma Parkes and Rob, Tabitha Rayne and Scarlet. The weekend would not have worked at all without them.

I must be honest, I had a massive number of worries about the practicalities of the day. I thought it would go by in a blur of questions and stress, but you know, once we got in I felt really happy and peaceful. I had my great team of helpy friends and there were all these amazing people turning up to join in the fun. Erotica writers and their fans are the most brilliant of folks. They’re kind, entertaining, funny and downright smutty. I thoroughly enjoyed my day.

I listened to all the great readings, made the odd cup of tea, checked out the gorgeous sparkly sexy things at the Crowned Jewels stand and talked to lots of lovely people. It was an amazing day and even the disaster of poor old Moorita being unable to start her car to join the party didn’t spoil our fun too much. We just went to plan B. (But Moorita, we’ll be waiting to see you perform at our next event!)

I enjoyed it all (bar the lugging of luggage!!) and the evening in the pub with smutty folks eating (I barely ate all day) a great buffet, listening (and singing) Karaoke and laughing, lots was the perfect cap to the day. There will be photos, but I’m going to withhold them for now…but they’re good, oh, yes. *rubs hands together*

So, I might have had a week of worries and niggled before the event but the day was well worth it all. It was a great big smut fest and I loved every minute of it.

Now, I think I need a nap…
